Mitsubishi has unveiled the Triton Savana, a specially equipped pickup truck designed for serious off-road capability. The limited-edition model, available exclusively in Brazil, builds upon the existing Triton (L200 in some markets) lineup with a focus on durability and enhanced functionality. This move follows a similar strategy employed with the previous generation, indicating a deliberate approach to catering to a niche but enthusiastic segment.
Enhanced Off-Road Features
The Triton Savana starts with the top-tier Katana trim and adds a suite of upgrades, including two unique paint options—Rally Yellow and Forest Green—paired with graphite gray matte accents on the grille and body cladding. Notably, this cladding isn’t purely cosmetic; it provides real-world protection against rock chips and trail damage.
Key enhancements include rock sliders that serve as both side steps and undercarriage guards, a heavy-duty roof rack, and a functional snorkel increasing the wading depth from 500 mm to 800 mm. This significant increase in water fording capability allows drivers to confidently tackle deeper river crossings. The truck also features 18-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in rugged all-terrain tires.
Mechanicals and Performance
Power comes from the same 2.4-liter bi-turbo diesel engine found in the Katana, producing 202 hp and 470 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and Mitsubishi’s Super Select II 4WD system, offering seven selectable drive modes for optimal traction in various conditions. Suspension remains unchanged from the Katana trim.
Interior and Tech
The cabin retains the premium features of the Katana, including leather upholstery with red stitching, a 9-inch infotainment display, a 7-inch instrument cluster screen, wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, seven airbags, and a 360-degree camera system. Mitsubishi also includes a comprehensive suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Limited Availability and Pricing
Mitsubishi will produce only 80 units of the Triton Savana for the Brazilian market. Pricing starts at R$349,990 (approximately US$65,100), positioning it roughly US$2,000 above the standard Katana trim. The limited production run highlights Mitsubishi’s targeted approach to this niche market.
The Triton Savana’s focus on rugged practicality over outright luxury demonstrates a clear understanding of consumer demand in South America’s challenging terrain. While not a global release, it represents a smart move for Mitsubishi in a competitive midsize pickup landscape.
