Leapmotor A10: New Electric SUV Targets Competitive Chinese Market

3

Leapmotor has unveiled its A10 compact SUV through regulatory filings, signaling a new entry into the increasingly crowded Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market. The A10 is the first in the company’s planned A-series lineup—which also includes B, C, and D series vehicles alongside the existing Lafa5 model—and is slated for launch in the first half of 2026.

Design and Key Features

The A10 sports a modern aesthetic with a closed-off front grille and LED headlights arranged in a “smiling face” pattern. The vehicle will offer optional LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, indicating advanced driver-assistance capabilities. It also features a distinctive “floating roof” effect, achieved through semi-hidden door handles and concealed pillars.

  • Dimensions: 4,270mm (length) x 1,810mm (width) x 1,635mm (height) with a 2,605mm wheelbase.
  • Weight: 1,460kg (curb weight).
  • Range: 500km (pure electric range).

The rear design mirrors the front’s “smiling face” theme with corresponding taillights and the LEAPMOTOR badge. Buyers will have options for wheel designs, fender trim, mirror-integrated cameras, and LiDAR integration.

Performance and Charging

The Leapmotor A10 is powered by a single 90kW (121 hp) electric motor supplied by Huzhou Lingsheng Power Technology. It utilizes a lithium iron phosphate battery, allowing for fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 16 minutes, supported by an oil-cooled electric drive system.

“The A10’s combination of LiDAR technology and long-range capabilities in the 100,000 yuan (approximately $14,000 USD) market segment makes it a promising contender.”

Market Positioning and Competition

Leapmotor is already accepting blind pre-orders for the A10. The vehicle is expected to compete directly with popular Chinese EVs such as the Geely Geome Xingyuan and BYD Seagull. CarNewsChina estimates a starting price around $10,000 USD, making it an aggressive offering in the budget-friendly EV segment.

The A10’s entry into this space will likely intensify competition, forcing other manufacturers to adapt or risk losing market share. The timing is critical as the Chinese EV market expands rapidly, with consumers increasingly seeking affordable yet technologically advanced options.

The A10 is positioned to be a significant player in the lower-price EV segment, potentially shaking up the market with its competitive features and pricing.
