Alfa Romeo’s new customisation division, BottegaFuoriserie, has unveiled its first limited-edition vehicle: the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa. This collaborative project with the Luna Rossa sailing team, which competed in the 2024 America’s Cup, merges high-performance automotive engineering with the world of competitive sailing.
Design Inspired by Sailing
The Luna Rossa edition features a striking two-tone exterior. Most of the bodywork is finished in metallic silver, while the roof, hood, and trunk are accented with a matte “boat deck” black. This design choice directly references the aesthetic of sailing vessels.
Beyond the colour scheme, the car boasts a new carbon-fibre aerodynamic kit. According to Alfa Romeo, it’s engineered for minimal drag yet generates up to five times more downforce (around 140kg) at 300km/h compared to the standard Quadrifoglio. The kit includes front canards, reworked side skirts, and a prominent two-part rear wing mimicking the hull of Luna Rossa’s racing yachts.
Performance and Interior Details
Under the hood, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa retains its potent 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, delivering 375kW (approximately 503 horsepower) and 600Nm of torque. The focus of this edition is more on visual and aerodynamic enhancements than powertrain upgrades.
Inside, the car features Sparco seats upholstered in materials reminiscent of Luna Rossa crew life jackets. The dashboard trim incorporates a strip of fabric taken directly from the team’s sails, reinforcing the racing theme. Red Alfa Romeo badges are applied to both the exterior and interior as a final touch.
Limited Production and Future Plans
Only ten Luna Rossa editions will be produced, with pricing yet to be announced. It remains uncertain whether any units will be sold in Australia.
The Luna Rossa is the first model from BottegaFuoriserie, a division established in 2025 by Alfa Romeo and Maserati to offer bespoke customisation and restoration services. The division’s first release was the Maserati Grecale Tributo Il Bruciato, developed in collaboration with the Marchesi Antinori winery.
Luxury brands like Ferrari and Rolls-Royce have demonstrated the profitability of exclusive customisation divisions, and Alfa Romeo and Maserati are likely hoping BottegaFuoriserie will boost their sales figures.
The Luna Rossa edition signals a strategic shift towards premium, low-volume offerings, capitalizing on brand heritage and motorsport associations to generate revenue.
