Nissan has updated its fourth-generation X-Trail SUV with styling and technology enhancements set to roll out in international markets. The changes aim to boost the X-Trail’s appeal, particularly in regions where it has historically lagged behind the popular Qashqai in sales.
Exterior Updates
The facelift includes subtle but noticeable revisions to the exterior design. New front and rear bumpers, reshaped LED headlights, and a more refined grille give the X-Trail a fresher look. Complementing these changes are new wheel options in 18- and 19-inch sizes, as well as an updated color palette for both the exterior and interior.
In select markets, such as the US, Nissan will offer a rugged “Rock Creek” variant. This trim features contrasting bumper inserts, orange accents on badges, and all-terrain tires for a more aggressive appearance. However, this bolder version is unlikely to be available in Europe.
Interior Refinements
The X-Trail’s cabin layout will remain largely unchanged, retaining the dual 12.3-inch displays for infotainment and driver information. Higher-grade models are expected to feature upgraded materials, with the potential for new tan-colored leather upholstery. The X-Trail will continue to offer both five- and seven-seat configurations.
Powertrain Options
Nissan will carry over its existing engine lineup, including a mild-hybrid 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a CVT transmission and front-wheel drive. This setup delivers 160 horsepower and achieves approximately 40 mpg on the combined WLTP cycle.
More notably, the updated X-Trail will also be available with Nissan’s latest e-Power hybrid powertrain. This system produces 201 horsepower, enabling a 0-62 mph time of just 7.2 seconds while achieving over 64 mpg. An e-Force all-wheel drive variant with a rear electric motor is also expected.
Market Availability and Context
Precise UK specifications and pricing are yet to be confirmed, but Nissan plans to release further details in the coming weeks. The current X-Trail range starts at around £36,000, with some dealers offering discounts of up to £9,000.
The X-Trail update is part of a broader refresh for Nissan’s lineup, which also includes the new Micra, the upcoming Leaf, and an all-electric Juke. These moves signal Nissan’s renewed focus on revitalizing its presence in key markets. The changes to the X-Trail, while subtle, should make it more competitive in the crowded SUV segment.
