Lexus is expanding its flagship ES model line with an all-electric variant for 2026. The new ES EV builds on a recent redesign of the conventional hybrid ES, maintaining the familiar exterior while introducing two distinct electric powertrains. This move aligns with the broader industry trend toward electrification, as luxury brands adapt to meet growing consumer demand for zero-emission vehicles.
New Powertrain Options
The 2026 Lexus ES EV will be available in two trims: the ES350e and the ES500e. The base ES350e delivers 220 horsepower to the front wheels, while the higher-end ES500e boasts 338 horsepower with an all-wheel-drive configuration. Lexus has also emphasized improvements to body rigidity, aiming for sharper handling without sacrificing the ES’s reputation for a smooth, quiet ride.
Interior and Tech Updates
Inside, the ES EV features a redesigned cabin with a 14.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility. Premium trims will offer a 17-speaker Mark Levinson sound system. The interior incorporates high-quality materials, including 3D-printed faux bamboo trim, to enhance the luxury feel.
Performance and Range
Lexus estimates the ES350e will accelerate from 0–60 mph in 7.7 seconds, while the ES500e will reach 62 mph in 5.4 seconds. Range estimates indicate approximately 300 miles for the ES350e with 19-inch wheels, and 250 miles for the ES500e, a reduction attributed to the added power and all-wheel-drive system.
Safety and Warranty
The ES EV comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, offering enhanced driver-assistance features like pedestrian detection and automated emergency braking. Lexus provides a competitive warranty: four years/50,000 miles for limited coverage, six years/70,000 miles for powertrain, and ten years/150,000 miles for battery components.
The addition of an electric ES model is a natural progression for Lexus, as they navigate the shift toward EV adoption. The brand’s commitment to refinement and comfort suggests that the ES EV will prioritize a luxurious driving experience over raw performance.
