BYD Unveils Great Tang EV: 950km Range, Luxury Features, and Cutting-Edge Tech

16

BYD has officially launched the Great Tang, a new full-size electric crossover designed to compete at the high end of the EV market. With a maximum range of 950 kilometers (590 miles), this vehicle aims to establish BYD as a leader in electric SUV technology. The Great Tang isn’t just about distance; it also boasts impressive performance and a suite of luxury features.

Design and Dimensions

The Great Tang’s exterior aligns with BYD’s “Dragon Face” design language, featuring striking “Dragon Whiskers” running light strips and a prominent trapezoidal air intake. The vehicle’s dimensions are substantial – 5302 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1800 mm in height, with a generous 3130 mm wheelbase. Details like semi-hidden door handles, a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, and large chrome rims add to its modern aesthetic.

Performance and Battery Technology

At the heart of the Great Tang is BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery, offering a 5% increase in energy density and support for megawatt-level fast charging. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant, equipped with a 300 kW (402 hp) motor, achieves a CLTC range of 950 km.

The all-wheel-drive (AWD) model pushes performance further, delivering 585 kW (784 hp) and accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. This version still maintains a respectable range of approximately 850 km. The improved battery tech means this is among the longest-range electric crossovers on the market.

Interior and Features

BYD has spared no expense in equipping the Great Tang with high-end features. The interior boasts a DiSus-A suspension with dual-chamber air springs for exceptional ride comfort, along with rear-wheel steering that reduces the turning radius to 5.2 meters. Inside, passengers can enjoy power doors, zero-gravity seats, and a premium 27-speaker audio system.

The cabin layout accommodates seven passengers in a 2+2+3 configuration, with ample space thanks to a 6.34 square meter roof and a 252-liter trunk. Additional luxury touches include folding tables for second-row passengers, a ceiling-mounted screen, and even a built-in refrigerator.

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems

The Great Tang integrates BYD’s DiPilot 300 (“God’s Eye B”) assisted driving system, supporting Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) on both urban roads and highways. The vehicle also features three central screens, enhancing the digital driving experience.

The BYD Great Tang represents a significant step forward in electric SUV technology. By combining long-range capabilities, high performance, and luxurious amenities, it sets a new standard for the EV market.

The BYD Great Tang is slated for release in the domestic Chinese market in late April, with a formal debut expected at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. This launch will be crucial for BYD as they seek to regain momentum in the competitive Chinese automotive landscape.
