Indian Pursuit Elite: The Most Comfortable Motorcycle for Passengers

Motorcycles are bought by riders, and rightly so. They’re the ones experiencing the machine firsthand. But for those who frequently tour with a passenger, the pillion seat experience is critical. A subpar seat can ruin a ride for both parties. Currently, the Indian Pursuit Elite stands out as offering the most comfortable passenger experience in the motorcycle market.

The Rise of Touring Comfort

While sport tourers and adventure bikes have improved passenger accommodations, nothing beats a dedicated grand tourer. American-style cruisers, with their large fairings, powerful V-twins, and focus on rider and passenger comfort, remain the gold standard. The Pursuit Elite takes this formula and elevates it.

Why the Pursuit Elite?

Indian and Harley-Davidson dominate the high-end touring segment, but the Pursuit Elite edges out the competition. The Pursuit is Indian’s flagship full-dress tourer, and the Elite version adds features that make it exceptional. Priced at $44,999 (with only 250 units worldwide), it offers premium comfort and exclusivity. Compared to Harley’s CVO models, which start at over $54,000, the Pursuit Elite represents good value.

Power and Performance

The Pursuit Elite is powered by Indian’s liquid-cooled PowerPlus 112 engine. This 1,834cc V-twin generates 126 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque. Despite the high numbers, peak torque arrives early at 3,600 RPM, making it exceptionally flexible. The bike won the 2024 MotoAmerica King Of The Baggers championship, proving its performance capabilities. A six-speed gearbox and belt drive deliver power efficiently to the rear wheel.

Chassis and Handling

The chassis combines traditional design with modern technology. It features a cradle frame with 43mm inverted forks and an electronically adjustable single rear shock (preload only). Brembo brakes provide strong stopping power, with twin 320mm front discs and a single 298mm rear disc. The Elite includes exclusive five-spoke cast alloy wheels: a bias ply tire on the front and a radial on the rear.

The bike weighs 944 pounds in running order and has dimensions of 101.5 inches long and 42 inches wide. Despite its weight, the V-twin engine makes it relatively narrow.

Features and Technology

The Pursuit Elite boasts an extensive feature list. It has a twin-analog dial instrument panel with LCD screens for additional information, and a seven-inch TFT touchscreen display with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and the Ride Command+ interface. Six 100-watt speakers deliver immersive audio, with dynamic equalization that adjusts to speed. All-LED lighting, including an adaptive Pathfinder headlamp with cornering function, enhances visibility.

A six-axis IMU enables advanced features like ride modes, cruise control, cornering traction control, and hill hold control. Radar-based blind spot detection and electronically linked brakes add extra safety. The only noticeable omission is a reverse assist function, given the bike’s weight.

Passenger Comfort Focus

The Pursuit Elite truly excels in passenger comfort. The pillion seat is color-matched, features armrests, and includes adjustable heating. Dedicated buttons within reach of the passenger control seat heating, and floorboards instead of mere pegs offer superior foot placement. Two of the six audio system speakers are focused on the passenger, providing an immersive audio experience.

Competition and Value

The Pursuit Elite stands out in a niche market of limited-run full-dress tourers. The Honda Gold Wing offers excellent value at around $33,800 with options, but lacks the exclusivity of a limited edition. Harley-Davidson’s CVO models compete in price but exceed $54,000 with comparable features.

The Pursuit Elite prioritizes passenger comfort and provides a premium experience at a competitive price.

The Pursuit Elite caters to riders who prioritize passenger comfort and exclusivity. It’s a bold statement in the touring market, blending luxury, performance, and modern technology into one impressive package.
