Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle brand under Geely, is significantly boosting the performance of its 009 luxury people mover. New filings with Chinese regulators reveal an upcoming model with a total power output of 680kW, a substantial increase from the current top configuration of 580kW.
Performance and Technical Changes
The updated Zeekr 009, expected to debut at the Beijing motor show in April, will feature a move to a 900V electrical architecture. This upgrade follows the brand’s recent shift to an 800V system in China earlier this year. The higher voltage is designed to facilitate faster charging speeds, though specific battery details remain undisclosed.
Currently, the Australian-market 009 operates on a 400V system with a peak DC fast-charge rate of 205kW. The Chinese version already offers options including a 310kW single-motor and a more powerful 580kW dual-motor setup. The new 680kW version will further enhance the vehicle’s performance capabilities.
Brand Context and Sales Performance
Zeekr’s parent company, Geely, also owns Polestar, Lotus, and has ties to Volvo (which markets a rebadged version of the 009 as the EM90). The brand launched in Australia at the end of 2024 with the 009 and the smaller X electric SUV.
However, sales truly accelerated with the introduction of the 7X mid-size electric SUV in late 2025. Zeekr delivered 1206 units of the 7X in 2025, nearly double the 665 units of the X, despite the 7X’s shorter sales period. The 009 sold 123 units, outpacing its direct competitor, the Mercedes-Benz EQV (42 sales).
Implications and Future Trends
The power upgrade for the Zeekr 009 signals a broader trend among Chinese EV manufacturers towards maximizing performance in luxury segments.
The move to higher voltage architectures is becoming standard for reducing charging times and improving overall efficiency. This development positions Zeekr as a key player in the evolving high-performance EV market. The combination of increased power and advanced charging technology will likely drive further consumer interest and competition within the premium electric vehicle space.
