Geely has launched an updated version of its Galaxy Starshine 8 Voyager series, offering a blend of advanced driver-assistance systems, improved electric range, and enhanced interior features. The new models, available from March 30th, range in price from approximately $19,900 to $24,100 USD, with promotional pricing as low as $17,500 USD for a limited time.
Key Updates and Pricing
The updated Starshine 8 introduces a LiDAR-based assisted-driving system, boosting its autonomous capabilities. The plug-in hybrid powertrain now supports an all-electric range of up to 225 km (CLTC standard). The vehicle is offered in four main variants, with exterior color options including Danxia Mineral and Rizhao Gold.
The base model starts at 142,800 yuan ($20,740 USD), while a limited-time offer brings the entry price down to 125,800 yuan ($17,500 USD). The top-tier models reach 172,800 yuan ($24,100 USD). The original Starshine 8 was first released in May 2023 at a starting price of 125,800 yuan ($17,400 USD).
Assisted Driving and Interior Tech
The Voyager series features Geely’s Qianli Haohan H5 (G-Pilot H5) assisted-driving system. This system utilizes a comprehensive sensor suite:
- One LiDAR sensor
- 11 cameras
- Millimeter-wave radar
- 12 ultrasonic radar units
The hardware is powered by an Nvidia Orin platform, enabling navigation-assisted driving in both urban and highway conditions, as well as automated parking features.
Inside, the Starshine 8 features the Flyme Auto 2 cockpit system and a high-end 23-speaker Flyme Sound audio system. Rear passengers benefit from executive seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions, adding a premium comfort experience.
Powertrain Options and Efficiency
The Starshine 8 offers two powertrain configurations: EM-i and EM-P.
- EM-i: Combines a 1.5L engine (82 kW, 136 Nm) with an electric motor for a combined output of 257 kW and 398 Nm. Equipped with a 28.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, it achieves a CLTC electric range of 225 km and fuel consumption of 3.32 L/100 km.
- EM-P: Uses a 1.5T engine (120 kW, 255 Nm) paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 300 kW and 605 Nm. Reported fuel consumption is 3.41 L/100 km.
Dimensions and Styling
The vehicle maintains dimensions of 5018 mm in length, 1918 mm in width, and 1480 mm in height, with a 2928 mm wheelbase. The Xinghe variant offers an optional Yaohei package, which includes a sportier front lip, body trim, and rear bumper.
The Galaxy Starshine 8’s update underscores Geely’s commitment to integrating advanced technologies into its vehicles, positioning it as a competitive option in the rapidly evolving Chinese automotive market. The focus on both electric range and assisted driving features suggests a broader industry trend towards smarter, more efficient plug-in hybrid options.
