Volvo’s Aussie EX60 Plans Expand Beyond Two Trims

2

Volvo isn’t just launching two versions of the EX60 in Australia. They’re looking at more.

The 2027 model arrives at the end of the year. At launch, you get the P6 RWD Ultra and the P10 AWD Ultra. Standard fare. But Volvo is already weighing options for this market. A high-performance P12 is on the table. An entry-level variant, too.

Let’s talk about speed first. The P12 takes the P10’s dual-motor all-wheel drive setup and pushes it harder. Output jumps from 375 kW to 500 kW. Torque hits 790 Nm. That drops the 0-10 km/h sprint to just 3.9 seconds. Four. Six. Seconds is no longer the limit.

Then there’s the rugged angle. The EX60 Cross Country is being evaluated. Think higher ground clearance. Adaptive dampers. Tougher looks. It’s not for serious rock crawling. It’s for country roads. Farm tracks. Muddy patches where most SUVs hesitate.

Currently, the Cross Country uses the 375 kW P10 powertrain. Eventually? The P12 option arrives here too.

And then… the price floor. Volvo is considering a lower trim below the Ultra. Likely the P6 Plus. It exists in the UK and North America. There it costs £5500 less than the Ultra version. Roughly A$10,00 less locally.

But strategy is messy. The EX60 P6 Ultra starts at $86,900 before costs. The smaller EX40 is down at $74,900. A Plus model stuck between them would probably land around $79,000 to $83,00.

Is Volvo trying to stop the bleed to its own sub-brand? Or just offer a cleaner entry point?

Only time will tell. The specs aren’t locked in. The local rollout plan shifts like sand. But the idea is there. A faster version. A tougher version. A cheaper version. All possibly heading Down Under.
