Nissan is expanding its high-performance Nismo lineup and has released a teaser image of a mystery model set to debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon next January. The vehicle, partially obscured in the preview, is not the expected Z variant despite recent model confirmations.
Design and Speculation
The single teaser shot reveals a rear section with horizontal taillights and vertical air outlets. The design suggests a low-slung sports car, fastback coupe, or even a coupe-style SUV. The subtle lip spoiler and downward-sloping glasshouse hint at a hatchback configuration rather than a traditional sedan.
Nissan has yet to disclose technical details, leaving open the possibility of an internal combustion engine or an electric powertrain. The teaser aligns with the company’s plans to double its global performance offerings, suggesting this could be a preview of a future production model.
Racing Prototype and Other Tokyo Show Highlights
Alongside the mystery Nismo concept, Nissan will showcase a separate racing prototype entering events in the 2026 fiscal year. A production version is planned following the competition debut, though it is unclear if this is the same vehicle as the teaser.
The Tokyo Auto Salon will also feature the updated Fairlady Z Nismo with a manual transmission. Additionally, Nissan will display a premium Autech trim of the new Leaf crossover, an off-road-focused X-Trail Rock Creek Wildplay, and a restored classic March hatchback with a manual conversion.
Honoring Racing Legacy
To celebrate veteran driver Tsugio Matsuda’s retirement, Nissan will exhibit the 2016 Motul Autech GT-R from Super GT. This display recognizes the brand’s commitment to motorsport heritage alongside its future performance ambitions.
